written by<\/span><\/i><\/b>: dr. jacquie jacob, university of kentucky<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n viral arthritis<\/span><\/b> is caused by reovirus. this illness is also referred to as reovirus infection and tenosynovitis. the virus is spread through respiratory secretions and feces and through mechanical means. it can also be transferred from a hen to an egg.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n clinical signs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n birds suffering from viral arthritis exhibit lameness and swollen hocks, reduced feed consumption, and reduced weight gain.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n treatment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n there is currently no treatment available for viral arthritis<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n prevention and control<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n maintenance of strict sanitation and a rigorous <\/span>biosecurity<\/a> program are the most effective ways of preventing an outbreak of this disease.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
